Moving Day

Goodbye Manhattan

The movers are scheduled to arrive in the morning. I hope they show up. Boy I'm really something else aren't I, the stress and anxiety of the last few weeks (and there has been A LOT but I'm not at liberty to talk about it right now) hasn't been enough for me, now I'm inventing worst case scenarios to torture myself with. THE MOVERS WILL BE HERE DEB. I've been trying really hard to keep things in perspective, really I am. I keep telling myself (and anyone who will listen) that if this is the worst stress I have in my life then I am one very lucky person. If the movers don't show up, well, then we'll just deal with it, right? RIGHT! but, but what if everything smashes to bits during the 2 hour drive up to the house... See what I mean, won't someone please save me from myself.

All neurosis aside, I'm kind of numb and feeling pretty sad right now, we've had some very good times here. It's hard for me to think that the city will no longer be my home, that this will no longer be my apt, that MY kitchen will soon be someone else’s. I'll be okay I think. I really am ready for this new chapter in our lives to begin I'm just not finding it as easy as I thought to leave this part of my life behind. I hope I don't cry at the closing! please don't let me cry at the closing

Once I post this, the computer will be shut down and packed away and I won't be updating the site or checking my email for the next several days. While I'm offline, if you find that you miss me terribly there are always my archives to read or, if you like, you can click on my current pick for website of the week. I also encourage you to peruse the many, many blogs I link to (located in the sidebars, but bear in mind I really need to update the list-not everyone I'd like to link to is there and some of the sites are now dormant). It has been a long while since I have practiced good blogging etiquette so I thought I would also point you to some of the various food and wine blog meta-sites, events and blog lists around the web. In the years that I have been keeping this journal online foodblogging has exploded on the web; there are now hundreds, maybe even thousands of food blogs out there. There is quite literally something for everyone, from high end dining to low country cooking. The people that run these sites are passionate about food and are some of the nicest folks you'll meet here in the blogosphere. I wish I had the time to keep up with all of them. Here is a list of sites (in no particular order) that do a great job of keeping track of other food sites that you may find of interest:

  • Paul from Food Blog has been keeping a list of foodbloggers and food related sites and adding to it regularly for years now.
  • Elise from Simply Recipes also maintains a list of food blogs
  • Redbeard keeps me abreast of recently updated blogs and has a seemingly never ending supply of new ones with Food Porn Watch, Wine Blog Watch, and now Food Critic Watch
  • Tana from Small Farms has a neat guest map of foodbloggers around the world.
  • Matt and Martin of Bourrez Visage run Food Blog Central, a continuoulsy changing list of recent entries from the food blog community
  • Sam of Becks & Posh is the headmistress over at Food Blog S'cool- a great resource for beginning and veteran bloggers who want information pertaining to designing and up keeping their blogs AND if that wasn't enough, it's also a good place to keep up with all the foodblogging events around the web.
  • Speaking of foodblogging events, I sadly haven't been able to participate in any of the numerous ones that can be found around the web since Meg and Barrett of Too Many Chefs hosted Is My blog Burning? VI (this was my entry). IMBB as it is more commonly known was created by Alberto of Il Forno as a way to bring people, not just food bloggers together using a central theme (like cake) and seeing what interpretations on that theme folks could come up with. Since then, the folks of Love Sicily and Via Ritiro N.7 Diary have created a more centralized place to keep track of some of the current foodblogging events around the web at ismyblogburning.com Events like Wine Blogging Wednesdays created by Len of Lenndevours, Sugar High Fridays started by Jennifer of The Domestic Goddess can be found there as well as a few others.
  • Owen of Tomatilla has two very special things happening over at his site. First there is the monthly Paper Chef contest where winners get to post the prestigious Paper Chef Winner icon on their sites. As well as Paper Chef there is Owens labor of love; Digital Dish a wonderful compilation of food writing from bloggers around the web. To read more about Digital Dish and about Owens publishing company Press for Change clicky here
  • Chef's Blogs has an impressive and continuously growing Food Blog Directory
  • Bruce Cole of Saute Wednesday keeps a list of random food news feeds from around the web
  • Josh from The Food Section always has "all the news that's fit to eat"

Alright! I know there are more than this and I don't mean to leave them out but my eyes are starting to melt and I really must shut down the computer and get back to packing. I'll be back online soon, until then have a wonderful weekend and happy reading!
