Yesterday I reached an all time food low-with nothing to eat and still no desire to cook, I almost (man it was close) had pie crust and salsa for lunch. At the last minute, I redeemed myself by making a quick omelet with 2 of the 5 eggs in our fridge-sauteed in a little truffle oil and butter...nummy!
In the meantime, desperate almost acts like the salsa/pie crust incident call for back-up reinforcement...
A quick phone call to a very good friend of ours, a former Chef who walked away from the kitchen 5 years ago to get into (I almost can't say it) computers! (I know, I know....crazy). This friend has been a constant source of inspiration to me and my cooking interests and a great partner in the kitchen. We often get together at his home and cook jointly in his kitchen while the kids run around underfoot, and our friends wife along with Tom keep the wine glasses full and the conversation interesting and lively. I almost always leave their home refreshed and with new cooking tips, a few recipe ideas and some silverware...NO! no! NO! No silverware... I swear.
RGF said if I bring the ingredients, he'll cook the meal...oh! Like I would pass THAT up and so I'm happily sitting here flipping through endless cookbooks and back issues of magazines trying to figure out what the dinner menu will be for Saturday night. I've already warned RGF that I'm bringing the digital camera and plan on taking lots of pics...it will be a sort of MurrayHill 5 goes on the road to bring you cooking... "LIVE! From Somewhere out in the Hamptons!" Well, almost live, since I probably won't be posting again until Sunday night. Already I can feel this cooking slump slipping away....
