Web-Logs I Enjoy ~ Part Two

I'm back! Not with stories of my cooking goodness but with more of my favorite links to shower you with. I was trying to keep it all in alphabetical order because it seemed the easiest way for me to go about this and keep it organized too. I'm here to report that my alphabetizing skills leave much to be desired. I knew this was going to happen. I left someone out... from the "A" category no less! I'm such a dope. I'll make it up though by posting it now. So! Without further delay, we're off to see the wizard...oops-no no no scratch that, wrong web-blog. SO! Without further delay...Web-logs I Enjoy Part Two.

Food Related:

à la carte-This is a fantastic website. It's not just a web site about food it's incredibly creative and very interactive. Knowing how much work goes into designing and running a website I can verify that Peter has probably spent many many long hours getting his site to the level of quality it's at right now. You can view the recipes in English OR French and almost every recipe comes with a beautifully shot photograph of the finished dish. There is so much more to see here than just recipes. There's step by step demonstrations of technique, complete with photo essays and much more. I really have to tell you to just go and see it, because I could not explain just how great, informative and interactive this site really is.

Food-eez This site is a newcomer to the food web-log genre. Started in January 2003 the site was created by 2 "foodies" who wanted to share their love of food, food links and food gadgets with like minded people on the web. What I like most about the site is the encouragement to participate via the comments section. Questions and opinions are asked of the reader and the reader is encouraged to leave comments. Both Shannon and Murphy are friendly and approachable. Everyone brings something to the table, whether it's in real life or in the virtual community of web-logs, Shannon and Murphy being the new comers deserve a visit and a warm welcome.

Frog-Gras-Blue's site. Hmmm, where do I begin...Blue has a wonderful site. Blue is a talented and dedicated cook who desires to become a Chef. Blue's dream should be allowed to come true. Blue knows food, she studies the books, does the research and she's very serious about the subject... in a completely approachable, very friendly, loving and charming manner. I enjoy Blue's sense of humor, her ability to laugh at herself, the way she writes about her strengths AND weaknesses. I enjoy how she visits my site and shares her vast knowledge of food with me, supports my photography and is all around just a swell person. She's also a talented poet, a great writer and supportive friend. Go see Blue's site....g'won, run, you'll be happy I sent ya.

FuckCorporateGroceries- J3s has a nice site. I really enjoy reading it and I really like the concept. After finding $27 dollars in her pocket one day and going to a small local market in her area, filling up on what she thought would blow the whole $27 bucks she was surprised to find she had filled her basket with all her food needs and for only $10 dollars. Thus began her journey into shopping locally and supporting the smaller independent stores in her area that cater to the customer as a human being and not just some random number like the big chains have a tendency to do. As an added bonus, she's very interested in photography and is a talented photographer at that.

Gastronome-What I really like about this site is that it is a group web-log, so you get to read about cooking from the perspective of the many different types of cooks that participate on this site. Some of the contributors just post recipes, others talk about the cooking process, there are restaurant reviews and really best of all is there's something for everyone here from the beginner to the more advanced cook. It's a great idea that I think works well and is done nicely.

Honest Cuisine-Honest Cuisine is a Food Journal started by Richard L. Chase of Simmer Stock Both sites are wonderful sites with lots of good information and interesting, informative writing. Honest Cuisine is leaning towards a group type of web journal and Richard invites people to contact him about submitting to the site. The information he has there right now is priceless and if you're serious about cooking and want to know much more than just the basics, both of Richards sites are great places to visit.

In Mamas Kitchen-Diana runs a wonderful site that requires membership- but it is free. It's well worth it too. A group web journal of sorts, members are encouraged to submit stories, recipes, art work, pictures, or almost anything pertaining to food. My favorite part of the site is the section titled "Mothers". Here you can find stories about cooking with Mama or Grandma, pictures of them, memories of the kitchen, all so wonderfully told. This is very much a web journal after my own heart. Diana is friendly and warm and very accessible. I encourage you to go and visit her site, it really is a must see stop on the web.

The Julie/Julia Project-Julie has taken on the daunting task of cooking the entire work of Julia Childs ground breaking cookbook "Mastering the Art of French Cooking". Let me tell you a little about "our Julie", she's no wimp. She's cooking recipes from this book everyday (or almost daily, she does take some well deserved breaks at times). I give her credit, it isn't easy cooking everyday, working full time, shopping, commuting, maintaining a relationship and a social life, let alone making nightly French meals from Julia Childs sometimes vague instructions. Julie manages it all quite well in a very entertaining and sometimes very colorful manner.

K Pasa!?- I recently found Kristi's site through a link from one of my favorite sites. This isn't really a web-journal completely devoted to food, but recent entries about food have been wonderful to read and the writing is just lovely. Kristi's site has become of my new favorite sites to read.

Meg's Food and Wine Page- Meg writes about food and wine in such a way that you are seduced by her words, her descriptions. As you read further Meg's memories become your memories and you can actually taste, smell and sip right along with her as she fills your mind and imagination with such vivid imagery. Her writing is really incredible and her knowledge of wine is breath taking- best of all she's willing to share her knowledge in an approachable and completely unpretentious manner that is both refreshing and appreciated.

Eek! It's very late. Well folks, I'll stop right here and let you have a chance to absorb the sites and go visit them before I continue with my alphabetical (hopefully getting it right) journey through all the exciting, well written, well presented wonderful web-logs that are part of what keeps me inspired not just in the kitchen but through life as well.
